Turner Elementary: A Legacy of Learning and Leadership

Since opening its doors in 1992 under the leadership of founding principal Nancy West, Turner Elementary has stood as a beacon of excellence in education. From the very beginning, the school prioritized student success, nurturing a learning environment where children thrive academically and socially.

Over the years, Turner has built a vibrant culture of community and pride. Beginning in 1999, students began performing at Houston Rockets games, a tradition that continues to celebrate talent, teamwork, and school spirit. In 2004, the dedication of volunteers like Harvey and Judy Turner was honored with the prestigious Sunshine Award, presented on campus by KPRC—highlighting the school’s strong ties to local community champions. A year later, Turner Elementary was recognized as the top-earning school in the district for its commitment to March of Dimes, showcasing the giving spirit of its students and families.

Leadership excellence has also been a cornerstone of Turner’s legacy. In 2007, then-principal Keith Palmer was named Pasadena ISD Principal of the Year, a reflection of the campus-wide culture of high expectations and student-centered leadership.

Though the school has grown and evolved over the decades, what remains constant is its unwavering belief in the potential of every learner. With a current enrollment of around 530 students, Turner continues to foster a welcoming, achievement-focused atmosphere built on connection, equity, and academic growth.
